The
Freaks and Geeks Wrap Party Highlights
By
Humphries
(Humphries is our most famous extra on the show. He can be seen in
quite a few episodes, if you look for him, and even hear him called by
name)

13, 2000
Ok,
this might take awhile, but here we go. The party started at 7:00 PM,
I arrived at 8:00. As I was walking towards the door, I saw a very long
limo drive by; by the time I got to the door, the occupants had gotten
out, it was the cast (I don't know if it was all of them or just some
of them). Some of the Freaks were smoking outside (strangely appropriate)
as I passed and went in.
The main room had several tables and a dance floor along with a stage
with the thrones for the king and queen. I should explain at this time
that the theme was Freaks and Geeks Prom. In the back room there was
a bar and a place to take couples or group pictures. There were also a
couple boxes of Yearbooks. The yearbooks contain pictures of all the cast
and crew along with lost of candid shots and stuff. Lots of people were
having people sign their yearbooks; I was too caught up in having fun
to do this (and I didn't have a pen). I think just having the yearbook
is cool &. I wish I could so it too all of you.
Who was there you ask, and what were they wearing:
It was actually a long time before I saw Linda and knew who she was, she
was wearing a full-length white prom dress and a blonde wig; the wig threw
me off. Busy was also wearing a wig, hers was a short bright pink one.
She was wearing a very short cocktail dress with nylons. I might not have
recognized her at first either if not for the fact that I herd he talk
(also, the outfit she had on made me look twice). Seth and Jason were
nice clothes, nothing that jumped out as very fancy or very tacky.
John was wearing his "Peresian Night Suit," the one he wore in "Looks
and Books." Samm and Martin were wearing some very bad (out of style)
formal wear, both would have suited their characters well.
Paul was there, wearing his out of style wardrobe, as was Judd. Also in
attendance were Jerry (Gordon), Lea Shepherd (Harris), Dave Allen (Mr.
Rosso), Sarah (Millie) and Natasha (Cindy). I might be forgetting about
someone, I might also conceivably have missed someone, at the height of
the party it was rather crowded. Also sighted briefly at the party was
Jim Carrey; I only saw him briefly when I first got there so he probably
didn't stay long.
There were a couple handfuls of extras there, most of the ones that had
worked on the show a lot were in attendance. As the night went on, some
would arrive and others would leave. I was wearing a black suit with a
Swede vest and a maroonish button up shirt with a matching tie & the
tie, coat and vest were removed soon after I started dancing.
The Basic Scene:
The main festivities of the night were dancing and karochiee. The music
played varied from disco to slow dances. Over the course of the night,
I think all the main characters (except maybe Martin) sung something,
Samm did two songs solo... he does try. John Daley's dad (who plays Mr.
Mainzer ) sung several songs, I think he comes from a musical theater
background in New York. Jerry (Gordon) sung something. There were a few
group numbers with Busy, Linda, Seth and Jason (and various combinations
therof). John sung something. Judd did a couple songs; Paul did at least
one too. The also sung Happy Birthday to Samm.
A lot of the songs were dedicated to people, I know one (that was sung
by Jason, with some help from Judd and Seth) was for Linda (I think it
was an original song). I do remember the last dedication of the night
was to Paul and Judd, it was sung by Linda and was "Wind Beneath my Wings".
Paul and Judd slow danced together during this song.
TV Graduation:
The first event of the evening was a graduation ceremony for the cast
members who were to graduate school this year (Seth, Martin and Samm).
The commencement speech was given by Dave Allen (Rosso) who said he's
give them each a pamphlet and tell them about a personal story in his
office later. After this, each graduate had to say a few words. Seth said
he was glad to get it because he'll probably never get a real one. Martin
didn't have much to say, only that he's never walked away from a classroom...
he'd always ran. Samm read from the "Freaks and Geeks Yearbook" what he
had written: the top 15 things he shouldn't have done.
The King and Queen:
The next event was the crowning of the prom king and queen. Busy announced
the winners. The runners up (prince and princess) were Linda and Curtis
(one of the light guys). I'm sorry about this, but I can't tell you who
the king and queen were, I don't remember their names and they weren't
people I knew well (needless to say they were not people most of you would
know either). After the official first dance between the king and queen
and prince and princess, it was back to the regular program. The Blooper
Reel: I'd like to tell you about the blooper reel & but I missed it.
I noticed the room that the dancing was in suddenly got very empty, I
would later discover why. They did not re-show it (at least if they did
they did I missed it again).
Humphries on the Loose:
Humphries made quite a spectacle of himself. My dancing is like nothing
that can be describe & I don't know what the right work for it would
be (Natasha actually said she liked it). John was doing pretty good out
on the dance floor (as in good in the same way I was & if that can
be called good). Paul is a pretty goofy dancer to. I was the most consistent
dancer all night I'm happy to say. At one point Samm came over and said
one word, de-caff . Actually all I had all night was water. John later
described my dancing as "It looked like you were having a sezure".
One of the first songs of the night was sung by Paul, I danced to it in
the way only I can. I suddenly realized that no one else was dancing &.
Which didn't really bother me. At this point Paul said something like
Take it Humphries (which surprised me). I do't know if he wanted me to
sing a verse or what, by the time I thought about it, the moment was past.
I didn't want to subject the audience to that & the dancing was bad
enough.
Sometimes I had a dance partner & often I didn't, either way it was
fun. I didn't really do any slow dances & never been too good with
the ladies. There was one point at which I found myself dancing wildly
in a semi-circle with Paul, John and Martin (and maybe someone else) very
erratically; the music just kept going on and on and we were all ready
to day. At the end of the song we did, we all flopped over on the stage
dead .
The End:
Finally the hour of 1:00 AM rolled around and it was time to go. After
Linda's You are My Hero, what more was there? By this time the crowd was
getting this. Everyone said their goodbyes, hugs and handshakes were exchanges,
and it was time to go. I finally left around 1:15 &. I had to be at
my real job (the one that I hate & but it pays the bills) at 2:00
AM. I found it hard to walk.
Tomorrow I will not be able to walk & I am so sore! I am very glad
I was allowed to go and I thought it was a fantastic party & same
time next year Paul? If I remember anything more I'll add it on later
& hopefully they'll post some pictures on this site too, there were
plenty of people taking pictures and making videos. I knew nothing of
the missing scripts until I read it on this message board... I can't immagine
that someone would be invited to the party and do such a thing.
